Teaching quality

The international college will take your progression to the University of Brighton seriously. We want you to succeed in your education goals. To help you achieve these goals we have designed programmes that will give you the best preparation for further study at the university. Below are some of the ways that we aim to ensure you do well:

  • Small class sizes – We use small teaching groups instead of large lecture theatres. This gives you lots of attention from teaching staff and helps you to quickly develop a comfortable relationship with your tutors and classmates.
  • Academic support – International students often require extra support in the UK because of different education systems in different countries. We will prepare you by teaching you how to take notes effectively, avoid plagiarism, research, write essays and more.
  • Learning support tutors – Every student is assigned a learning support tutor to meet with you regularly. They will monitor your progress and give you extra help when you need it.
  • Teaching time – You will need to make a serious academic commitment. As well as plenty of contact time with your tutors in class, you will also be expected to undertake a minimum of eight hours self-study each week for every module you study.
  • English language support – We will offer you a broad range of English language support, from pre-sessional English leading to the graduate diploma, to integrated English in the foundation certificate and diploma courses. The University of Brighton also offers all international students free English language support in the first year of your degree.
  • Monitoring progress – we will constantly be monitoring your progress and giving you feedback so that you know what areas you need to improve on and where your strengths lie. This will help you achieve success.
  • Scholarship incentives A number of scholarships are usually available to University of Brighton’s International College students—both for entry to the college and on progression to the University of Brighton. See the scholarships page for more information.
