You will be studying in one of the UK’s most vibrant cities, and be immersed in a diversity of cultural delights. The city of Liverpool is famous around the world for its music, sport and entertainment culture.

Socialising: the Liverpool experience

As a student, you will find Liverpool to be a welcoming, multicultural and vibrant place to live. With more than 50,000 students living and studying in Liverpool, this is a truly student-friendly city that offers something for everyone.
The city is compact, and the University campus is just a ten-minute walk from the heart of the city. Whatever you are interested in, students are sure to find something to attract them:

  • The city centre offers a wide variety of museums, theatres, galleries, shopping outlets, independent stalls and malls with designer stores.

Culture: students are right at home!

Liverpool’s recognition as the European Capital of Culture in 2008 confirmed it as one of the most vibrant and creative cities in the UK. Liverpool has more museums, theatres and galleries than anywhere else in the UK outside of London.

Inspired: we’re singing the same tune!

The Beatles is Liverpool’s most famous export, and the city is known for its musical excellence and originality. The city offers great inspiration for many students, who can visit intimate gig venues in the city or see internationally famous acts perform in one of the larger music venues.

A city of sports fans

You will find that sport, along with music, is the beating heart of this city. Whilst football is the most popular sport for many residents of Liverpool, many other sporting events also take place here too, such as the Grand National horse race (known as the world’s most-watched sporting event).

Cosmopolitan student communities

Liverpool has the oldest Chinese community in Europe. It is also home to communities from Africa, Asia and many European countries. Foods from many nations are available in in the city which adds to Liverpool’s exciting cosmopolitan feel.

Students who want a little time away from Liverpool

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Sefton Park – complete with the beautifully refurbished Palm House – is a great place to escape to. The nature reserves and sand dunes along the coast at Formby are just half an hour away. Excellent train links also mean that students are able to easily reach the national parks of the Lake District, Peak District and Snowdonia for a real taste of the British countryside.

Exploring the rest of the UK

The UK is a relatively small country and students can easily explore it on their own or with their new-found friends. London is just over two hours away by train, or five and a quarter hours by coach. You can also take a ferry directly from Liverpool to the Isle of Man or the Republic of Ireland.
