Student Story
Penda Camara, LIC

"Before I came to the UK I was studying an Access course in Maths and Biology. I wanted to further my education and I knew that the UK was the place to go. The UK is known for its high standard and quality of education and I wanted to be a part of it. In my home country, Gambia, it is difficult to study as the research facilities there aren’t as developed as in the UK and I was determined to progress on to doing a degree. My dad was also a big inspiration for my decision to come and study as he got his first degree here and got a good job out of it and that is something I wanted to achieve.

I chose to study at Liverpool International College (LIC) because if I made it to my progression university, the University of Liverpool, then I would be studying at one of the universities in The Russell Group. This (The Russell Group) represents 20 leading UK universities who are committed to maintaining the best research and links with business and the public sector which was an exciting prospect for me as it is a career I am thinking to go into.

I am studying a Foundation programme in Business, Law and Social Science at LIC. Studying here has made me more confident and I have become more fluent in speaking English and attained skills to write essays. The college itself is very friendly and the staff and tutors are excellent; they are always happy to help you either in or outside class.

At first I was worried about studying at university in the UK but by doing my foundation course at LIC first, I now feel well prepared for my undergraduate course. I feel that I will be able to cope with university life better and that’s all thanks to LIC. I will definitely recommend this college to anyone wanting to further their education. "

Penda Camara is from Gambia and studied a Foundation Certificate in Business, Law and Social Sciences at Liverpool International college.
