Foundation Certificate courses for international students

Our Foundation Certificates provide excellent preparation for international students who are looking to study an undergraduate degree at the University of Liverpool. Depending on your chosen discipline at university, we offer two Foundation university pathway courses:

These courses aim to help students reach GCE ‘A’ level equivalent standard.

Course Structure

Our Foundation Certificate courses have three elements:

  • Academic skills modules
You will develop key academic skills including research, writing, presentation and analysis.
  • Subject modules
You will look at the basics of your chosen area of study. This will give you the core knowledge needed to progress to more specialised study on your chosen undergraduate degree course.
  • Student tutorials
All international students will be assigned a Learning Support Tutor. Your tutor will work with you throughout the duration of your academic course at the college, and support you in achieving your study goals. You will have one-to-one meetings with your tutor every 2-4 weeks, and they will discuss your progress, and offer valuable advice that will prepare you for your undergraduate degree. He/she will be on hand to help you develop the study skills and knowledge needed to ensure that you receive the best possible academic preparation to progress to the University of Liverpool.

All modules are taught with your progression to the University of Liverpool in mind.

English Language tuition is also available for students who need extra help to meet the required English levels.

Guaranteed Progression to Year one of an Undergraduate degree

If you successfully complete the Foundation Certificate at the required level, your progression to a Year 1 of a related undergraduate degree at the University of Liverpool is guaranteed.

Student Story
Darlington Okafor, LIC student

"I chose Liverpool International College (LIC) because it is a college with different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds. I didn’t really know what to expect when I first started here. But once I started, I was very impressed with how the college functioned and the friendly atmosphere.

I am studying a Foundation in Business, Law and Social Science. The two term foundation certificate at LIC is awesome! The courses are exceptionally well taught and I am enjoying my course far more than I thought I would. Thanks to LIC, I feel really well supported, the Library is very modern with excellent facilities – there is everything there to help you succeed!

I think the best thing at LIC is working in small tutorial groups which help a lot. We can discuss our work with our tutors and fellow students to gain a real understanding of the subjects.

I highly recommend friends and family to come to LIC because it is an opportunity that should not pass by. The staff at LIC are very well regarded in their respective fields and are very willing to help and are always accessible to the students. If I was to sum up LIC in three words it would be: educative, fun and attractive."
