Pre-Sessional English & Integrated English language tuition

We understand that as an international student your English Language skills can take some time to adjust in a new environment abroad, but please remember that you are not alone.

Liverpool International College offers two types of English language preparation for international students taking our Foundation or Graduate Diploma courses: Integrated English courses and Pre-sessional English courses.

Graduate Diploma students:

Tier 4 visa regulations stipulate that Graduate Diploma students will need to have a minimum IELTS level of 5.5 (or Equivalent SELT score) with a minimum of 5.5 in each component. Find a full list of UKBA approved Secure English Language Tests here.

Liverpool International College is now offering Pre-sessional English courses to potential Graduate Diploma students to help them achieve these results. These English courses are highly intensive and have one goal – to help you achieve the required level of English in order to study at a postgraduate level in the UK!

What does a pre-sessional course for Graduate Diploma candidates comprise of?

The Preparatory English for the Graduate Diploma is a specialised intensive English course with a strong focus on exam preparation and individual attention. You will receive 24 hours tuition per week, plus self-study and access to online exam practice. The mock exams will identify and skills weaknesses to be addresses in tutorials.

Integrated English for Foundation students:

The course is tailored especially for international students, to assist them with their further education studies. The course provides 20 hours per week of interactive classroom based tuition and a further 20 hours per week of guided self-study. Assignments include language project work in the local community and on-line activities.

You will also be assigned a personal Learning Support Tutor who you will meet at regular intervals to discuss your progress and to receive help with areas you find difficult. Throughout your Pre-Sessional English studies, you will receive enhanced support from the Student Services team to ensure you gain the maximum benefit from your studies.

When can you start?

Pre-Sessional English classes are included in the Foundation certificate courses that you would like to progress to.

**This course is available to students studying the Foundation Certificate in Science and Engineering (Maths & Science) only.

Help with international English: how to apply

Submit your application for a Foundation Certificate or Graduate Diploma and we will assess whether you need to increase your language level. If you do, the appropriate Pre-Sessional English course will be automatically added to your offer.
