Social activities

Liverpool was the European City of Culture in 2008, and is a fantastic place to be a student. For the duration of your course our Student Services team will regularly organise entertaining social events and trips to nearby cities and places of interest. These activities are designed to help you socialise with fellow students and make you feel at home in the UK!

The types of activities fall into three categories:

Sports

Our Student Services department runs sporting activities for all LIC students who wish to take part. We run weekly sessions for several sports including:

  1. Football
  2. Badminton
  3. Gym fitness – legs, bums and tums etc
  4. Basketball
  5. Ad hoc sports sessions for fun, e.g. dance classes

The training sessions are run by the LIC Sports Leaders for each sport, and are free to attend. The only time we ask for a contribution (usually under £5), is when we use the University’s outstanding facilities for games and practise, unless you are already a member!

Our sports activities are a great way for you to make friends, socialise, relax, keep fit, improve your game, and be part of a team. It also give you the opportunity to train towards the KIC Games, which in 2011 was held at our International College in Sheffield. We also hold ‘staff versus student’ games so you can have the chance to beat your tutor!

LIC students can also join the main University of Liverpool sports teams – there are over 40 different sports clubs – find out more about these at www.liv.ac.uk/sports

The LIC Society

The LIC Society is run by our students, for our students, with the help of LIC Students Services and also the Liverpool Guild of Students. Any student can join the Society online. It costs just £3 and once you join, you are a member for life!

Why join the LIC Society?

  • You can join any of the LIC Society’s social and language exchange events
  • You can join the committee to help organise future events (this will give you skills that will look great on your CV!)
  • Your membership and activity card entitles you to various discounts, including 10% off at the Guild shop and food in the Saro Wiwa restaurant in the Guild of Students

Activities, events and excursions

Our Student Services team put on various activities throughout the term. Take part in stunning October firework displays in Sefton, Newsham or Walton Hall parks, visit fascinating museums and contemporary art festivals. Excursions can also include:

  • Walking tours around the city of Liverpool
  • Day trips to the historic local city of Chester and Chester Zoo
  • Shopping in Manchester
  • Chinese New Year celebrations
  • Ice skating
  • Blackpool Illuminations
  • Alton Towers theme park
