The University of Sheffield’s English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) is recognised as a Centre of Excellence.

The University of Sheffield is one of UK’s finest. Not only is it a top 15 UK university (Sunday Times, 2011), it is also one of the world’s top 100 universities and one of the top 30 universities in Europe (Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Annual Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2010). It belongs to the prestigious Russell group of universities, a group of 20 leading universities in the UK that have been recognised as centres of world class research and teaching, and is also associated with no less than 5 Nobel Prize winners.

A recent accolade the university has received is the recognition of its English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) as a Centre of Excellence 2011 by the leading industry newspaper the ‘English Language Gazette’. Awarded only to those institutions receiving 5 or more points of excellence in recent British Council Accreditation UK inspections.

As of January 2011, the ELTC is one of only 8 institutions in the country and only one of 2 universities in the country to win this honour.
