Graduate Diploma in Journalism, Media and Communications

This Graduate Diploma course in Journalism, Media and Communications prepares you for entry onto a number of exciting media-related MA degrees at the University’s School of Arts and Humanities. The Graduate Diploma is intense and challenging, and builds on your previous studies and experience. You will choose from integrated academic studies in journalism, media and communications, and gain advanced level English skills and higher level UK study skills.

The Graduate Diploma in Journalism, Media and Communications is made up of the following range of modules:

  • Core academic skills modules
  • Subject modules

Students who enrol will receive excellent preparation for studying a postgraduate degree course in Media, Journalism or Communications at the University.

English Language tuition is also available for students who need extra help in developing their English skills.

Progress to Nottingham Trent University

Students at the International College enjoy small class sizes and ideal learning conditions for progressing to the University. Successful completion of your Graduate Diploma course guarantees your progression to a related postgraduate degree.

Subject modules

For a two-term course, you will usually complete ten modules. If you are taking a three-term course you will study an additional English Language module.

  • Aspects of British Society and Culture
  • European Liberal Democracy
  • Research Design and Critique
  • Research Project
  • Social Science Principles

*Three-term students will also take Language for Study 1 and additional hours for Language for Study 2 and 3.

 
Progression Degrees

Students that successfully complete their Graduate Diploma in Journalism, Media or Communications courses will progress into one of the following Nottingham Trent University degrees:
School of Arts and Humanities

**All students progressing to Journalism degrees will need to satisfactorily complete a journalism test and interview, and achieve a minimum of 70% in English prior to enrolment on the degree course.

Academic entry requirements

English language entry requirements
You will need to show proof of English language ability – usually an IELTS test (or equivalent Secure English Language Test – SELT (PDF)). A higher IELTS score means your programme will be shorter and you can progress to Nottingham Trent University more quickly.

Pre-sessional English
New UKBA regulations stipulate that all students must meet the minimum English requirements for postgraduate study in the UK. If you do not meet the requirements (overall or in a single discipline) we can tailor an intensive English preparation course to help you progress onto your graduate diploma course.
