Preparatory and Integrated English language tuition
Do you need to improve your English language skills and build confidence in using English before joining one of our academic courses?
Nottingham Trent International College (NTIC) offers two types of English language preparation for international students. Integrated English is available for students taking our Foundation or International Year One courses, while Preparatory English is available for those taking a Graduate Diploma course.
When you apply: proving your English ability
Even if you choose to take one of our Preparatory English courses, you will need to show proof of your English language ability when you apply to study at the College. This usually takes the form of an IELTS test (or equivalent). Prospective students are reccommended to sit the PTE Academic test (Pearson’s test of English academic). It’s fast, reliable and secure and consists of just a single three-hour session that covers all four skills. Available around the world, the test can be arranged with just 48 hours notice and results are typically available within five business days.
Preparatory English for Graduate Diploma students
New Tier 4 visa regulations specify that Graduate Diploma students need to have a minimum IELTS level of 5.5 (or Equivalent SELT score) with a minimum of 5.5 in each component. View a full list of UKBA approved Secure English Language Tests.
NTIC offers Preparatory English courses to potential Graduate Diploma students to help them achieve these results. These English courses are highly intensive and have one goal: to help you achieve the required level of English in order to study at a postgraduate level in the UK.
What is involved in a Preparatory English course?
This is a specialised intensive English course with a strong focus on exam preparation and individual attention. You will receive 24 hours tuition per week, plus self study and access to online exam practice. These mock exams will identify any weaknesses in your skills that will then be addressed in tutorials.
Integrated English courses for Foundation and International Year One students
Our Integrated English courses are designed to fully understand and meet your language requirements. Our English courses provide you with 20 hours per week of interactive classroom-based tuition and a further 20 hours per week of guided self-study.
The courses feature a combination of interesting tasks to enable you to put your English language knowledge into context. Assignments include language project work in the local community and on-line activities, as well as preparation for classes.
You will also be assigned a personal Learning Support Tutor who you will meet at regular intervals to discuss your progress and to receive help with areas you find most difficult. It is throughout your Integrated English studies that you will receive enhanced support from the Student Services team to ensure that you benefit from their support for the duration of your studies.
Secure your place: Preparatory English courses
To apply for a place on one of our Preparatory English courses simply submit your application for a Foundation Certificate, International Year One course or Graduate Diploma and we will assess whether you need to increase your language level. If you do, the appropriate Preparatory English course will be automatically added to your offer.
