Student Profile

“I originally decided to come to the UK to study because the education is very similar to that of my home country, Gambia. The UK educational system has a good reputation worldwide and I know that if I got a qualification from here that it would give me a good chance to achieve my career goals.

I found out about Sheffield International College (SIC) through the college website but I also looked at the prospectus to help me get a clearer idea of what was on offer. When I was applying for SIC the prospectus was very useful as it was easy to use and all the information was clear. It was a great aid in helping me make my decision to study here.

My first impression of the place was that it was everything that I expected and more. I am studying a foundation programme in Engineering and I want to become a microbiologist. I am constantly learning new things and I like the fact the course is quite practical. I am also developing myself academically. I think studying here will give me the knowledge and confidence to progress to university easily. The other great thing about being here is that it is a very multicultural college and I have met different people from all over the world and I have made friends from many continents.

Studying at this college has changed my life. I had the chance to meet wonderful people and mature academically. I will definitely recommend SIC to people who want to study abroad because it is a place that gives you a good foundation of learning.”

Fatou Jaiteh from Gambia studied the Foundation Certificate in Science and Engineering at Sheffield International College.
