Our Foundation Certificate course is ideal for international students interested in business, law or social science degrees. Successful completion of your Foundation Certificate guarantees progression to a wide selection of undergraduate degree courses at the University of Liverpool. The main elements in the Foundation Certificate in Business, Law and Social Sciences are:

Academic and language support is also provided throughout the Foundation Certificate to help you reach your academic and English language goals, and progress to university.

  • Academic skills modules:
    Students are able to learn key academic skills – how to undertake research, develop essay writing skills, give oral presentations, and learn analysis skills.
  • Subject modules:
    Depending on your chosen undergraduate degree, your subject modules will either develop your knowledge in business, the social sciences, or provide a comprehensive introduction to law. The modules will cover all the basics of your chosen area of study so that you have the knowledge you need in your subject area. After learning the basics, you will then progress to more specialised modules that focuses on the topics and skills that you will need most in your chosen undergraduate degree course – whether you choose to pursue business, international social studies or to become law students of the university.

All modules are taught with your progression to the University of Liverpool in mind, and are designed to meet the needs of all international students.

Enhanced University Preparation (for our two-term Foundation students)

The Enhanced University Preparation course is for students with an IELTS level of 5.5. who want to enhance their studies by adding an extra term to their two-term course. You will receive an introduction to key topics, useful learning tools and UK culture in your first term, before continuing with the regular two-term Foundation course in the second and third terms. These extra study skills will support your success during the remainder of your Foundation course and when you are studying at the University of Liverpool.
